In this talk at Zifo’s Manufacturing Summit recently held at Raleigh, Sachin Patel Associate Director at Biogen, recounts the significant effort required to establish a strong Data Integrity (DI) culture within the organization. Initially, the implementation of DI ALCOA encountered widespread unfamiliarity, necessitating extensive company-wide training. Over time, this training successfully embedded DI principles into the team's daily workflow
He observes a clear shift in employee understanding. Today, team members routinely inquire about audit trails, attribution, and contemporaneous data when introducing new applications, demonstrating a deep integration of DI concepts. This transformation is particularly noticeable during audits, where inspectors now engage directly with analysts, who confidently address detailed DI questions
The development of this culture was facilitated by the establishment of DI champions, volunteers from various business areas who proactively identified and addressed potential issues. Monthly forums and cross-departmental DI walkthroughs further reinforced the team's understanding of DI procedures. These initiatives collectively contributed to a team that is not only knowledgeable but also confident in upholding high data quality standards. He views this evolution as a testament to the effectiveness of dedicated training, proactive leadership, and open communication in building a sustainable DI culture
